Great summer boating destinations (Moreton Bay)

This week following the success of last weeks blog, we are going to continue heading North for some great boating destinations, this week we will look around the Moreton Bay area and its marine parks.

1: Russell Island (Google Map) -27.6872251,153.396386

This stretch of boating is great for those who have a performance or smaller all round boat like a bow rider or similar, the run from the Gold Coast up and around Russell Island is always great with its fast sweeping corners and long straights, it can give you the opportunity to open up the throttle. The main leg is up through the Canaipa Passage, use the Google map link above to work out your route from your location.

2: Macleay Island (Google Maps) -27.606502,153.361535

Macleay Island is great little getaway for those wanting to just get away from the daily grind, Macleay still has all the “main land” features from bowls clubs, skate parks, Yoga and even a table tennis group. With Macleay you can either venture there by boat or catch the car ferry from Stradbroke Ferries, here is the barge time table.

3: Amity Point & Point Lookout (Google Map

Home to a range of amazing locations that can be accessed by either car ferry or by boat and there is no better place to park up your boat than at the Little Ship Club Marina. Home to the annual Game Fish Tournament (13th, 14th & 15th February 2015) this place is heaven on earth, sit back relax and stair over the bay with a cold beer and a great feed. If your not looking to stay onboard your boat there is a range of accommodation across the island from house rentals to camping grounds. Remember a 4wd permit is required for those driving.
